Watch-dials and hands tests

The face of a watch, the dial – hands assembly may be altered under the effect of climatic or chemical stresses. Various tests are used to detect any weaknesses:

  • Climatic tests: UV radiation, tropical climate, sulphur compounds
  • Coating inspections: adhesion, thickness
  • Mechanical tests: impacts, vibrations, hold of the dial feet, indexes and appliques
  • Characterising photoluminescent deposits as per ISO 17514 (NIHS 97-21): adhesion, climate tests, loss of luminosity
